Pilot Smart Urban Ecosystems Leveraging Open Innovation For Promoting And Enabling E-Services
PEOPLE-Smart Cities is an European project funded in the FP7 research framework programs for the period: 2010-2012 in the context of the ICT PSP Program. The consortium is composed of 9 partners from 4 countries (France, Spain, Greece, Germany).
The PEOPLE project aims at developing living labs to accelerate the adoption of new ICT technologies for smart cities. The emphasis is done on IoT and Web technologies as well as Artificial Intelligence in order to enable the rapid implementation, deployment and use of innovative services to address the major challenges of the developed cities and their future quality of life . This will be possible by designing and implementing user - oriented open innovation methodologies and processes.
To this end, four smart urban ecosystems of smart open innovation have been created to become incubators for sustainable smart cities based on ICT services enabling citizens to live better lives. They are called PEOPLE Pilots and will be deeply networked to improve the total impact by creating synergies and increasing the production and use of knowledge.
Four pilots created in four different European cities:
· Bilbao City, Spain,
· Bremen City, Germany,
· Thermi City located in the region of Thessaloniki, France
· Vitry sur Seine City, located in the region of Paris (Ile de France), France
They were selected because of their track record of smart cities based on ICT innovation, as well as their strategic interest in the project. Some initiatives have already been launched in each city in relation to the objectives of the project, and PEOPLE fits perfectly into their local agendas for the evolution of each city.
The LISSI contributions are around the use of AI building block to create smart bus stop that is able to monitor the situations in the surrounding and offer mobility assistance to urban users as well monitoring their safety. The AI building blocks are implemented based on the reasoning frameworks Cerebro and Smart-rules. These building blocks allo to run monitoring rules written in the smart rules language and event calculus.
