VENTRIO

VENTRIO is an interdisciplinary research project funded by PRES Paris Est. The project, led by DAACHI Boubaker, started on March 30, 2012. The objective is to study a Control / Control system by artificial vision of a robotic endoscope in the context of neuro-surgical interventions. More precisely, it is a question here of developing a technique of endoscopic robotic VENTRIculOcisternostomy of the third ventricle for the treatment of hydrocephalus. This surgical procedure aims to reduce the pressure increase of the cerebrospinal fluid in the cerebral ventricles. The operation is performed by an intracranial diversion of the cerebrospinal fluid. A perforation is made in the floor of the third ventricle using a tool guided by an endoscope, to restore a free circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid between the ventricular cavities, where it has accumulated, and the peripheral fluid spaces. brain. The procedure is performed by guiding the endoscope using a robotic arm to the target. The robot carrying the endoscope is guided by the practitioner using a joystick. In order to optimize patient safety, automating the current procedure is an interesting research avenue to explore.

The contribution of LISSI in this project will consist in developing a control / command scheme referenced vision by exploiting, in real time, the visual feedback of medical images provided by the endoscope throughout the procedure.
